Vegetable cultivation on railway premises too

A massive vegetable cultivation program will be launched by the Railways Department at the premises of 500 railway station countrywide from next month in keeping with the Government's novel program of cultivating vegetables at State institution premises.

Railway Department, Director Planning Wijaya Samarasinghe yesterday told the Sunday Observer that vegetable cultivation in the premises of railway station could be carried out without any obstacle since no Railway Station premises in the country get submerged even during heavy rains and floods.

He said the program will be carried out on the directive of Transport Minister Kumara Welgama and the General Manager of Railways. The vegetable cultivation program will be first carried out at all State institution premises under the guidance of the Agricultural Ministry.

Agricultural Ministry, Secretary K.E. Karunatilaka said the Ministry circular in this regard will be issued by the Presidential Secretariat tomorrow.
