A spectacular perfect show

Chairman of ANCL Bandula

Chairman of ANCL Bandula Padmakumara awards the prize to Randika Gavinda who won the Mr. Energetic Mini title. Looking on is the Head of Corporate Relations of ANCl Waruna Mallawaarachchi.

And at long last, after several weeks of mini pageants, the finale of Mr and Ms Perfect was held at Waters Edge on February 5, Saturday evening. It had been a long and grueling experience for the contestants. Perfection is not a title easily attained after all.

It had been an extremely competitive competition but they also had fun and games along the way with much needed exposure and learning experiences.

The much looked forward to finale was a glittering affair co-hosted by Clifford Richard and Yureni Noshika.

It was a bright and beautiful evening with good looking contestants walking down the ramp in sports wear, beach wear and evening wear, vying with each other for the ultimate crown, interspersed with frequent and varied entertainment.

The entertainment included Bollywood style, fusion as well as hip hop dancing by the Muddrika Dance team, a drumming and beat boxing slot by Sachinda and his drummers who also provided the music background for the beachwear slot and finally a sexy performance by singer Natasha Rathnayake who sang her hit Runaway. The contestants themselves opened the entertainment for the evening with a dance performance titled 'Rhythm of the Night.'

Mr. Perfect - Randeepa Senevirathne

Ms. Perfect - Sumudu Prasadini

The contest, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka, was the dream child of Fitness and Wellness Center, Fitness First's CEO, Aruna Aluthge to bring awareness to the country on fitness. Mr & Ms Perfect 2011 is a new conception which puts both fitness and beauty on one stage but its organizers plan to make it an annual feature.

The first event after the opening performance by the contestants was the sports wear category which had nimble bodied contestants walking down the ramp in t-shirts and shorts or track pants. Then came a video presentation of the related Mr & Ms Energetic competition, held at Bentota, which showed contestants going through various physical endurance tests.

The winners of this mini pageant were Randika Gavinda and Anne Piumi. Presenter Yureni Noshika pointed out that Anne was a member of the National Athletics team, to give an indication of just how fit she was.

Next came the beach wear segment, showcasing varied, exotic and colourful items of clothing to wear by the beach and comprising a wide range between both the practical and the fanciful.

Interspersed with the live categories for the night were videos of the mini pageants and next up was the mini pageant for Mr. Physique and Ms. Body Beautiful. The winners of this category were Randeepa Senevirathne and Sumudu Prasadini Wijesinghe. The last category for the evening was the 'elegant segment' as Clifford Richard put it and it was the evening wear segment. All the ladies walked down the ramp in flowing gowns worked in sequins.

The panel of judges (R-L): Basheer Cader, Group Chief Commercial Officer, Galle Face Hotel, Sanjith Madugalle, General Manager Harcourts, Trudi Corea, Director - Sales and Marketing, Galadari Hotel, Michael Wijesuriya, Fashion Designer and Deepak Shanmugam, Professional Model.

The gowns had a common theme but the designer, Irosha Manojani had ensured different and elegant designs in various hues for each contestant. The men's evening wear segment could not be quite so colourful; black was the predominant theme but the designer Nishan Seneviratne had nevertheless ensured diverse and even creative designs for all the contestants.

This was followed by a series of video presentations and mini pageant awards. The ladies had a stand alone contest for most beautiful hair and skin; Udari Kaushalya won the title for most beautiful skin while Sumudu Prasadini landed the award for most beautiful hair.

Mr and Ms Photogenic were won by Sameera Liyanarachchi and Charitha Waidyasiri. The Slimgreen Mr & Ms Personality title went to Mithila Abeysekera and Nadisha Yapage. The Mr Talent title went to Randipa Seneviratne, a black belt in karate for his karate sequence and the Ms Talent title was won by Nipuni Wilson for her belly dancing sequence.

And in presenter Clifford Richard's words, "to finish off the perfect show", they had an entertainment segment "from a perfect performer with a perfect body, Natasha Rathnayake."

And finally came the time that the contestants and all their well wishers had long been waiting for the announcement of the winners. 2nd Runner up, Mr Perfect: Wazeem Cammer, 2nd Runner up, Ms Perfect: Nipuni Wilson, 1st Runner up, Mr Perfect: Harsha Lakmal, 1st Runner up, Ms Perfect: Nadisha Yapage

The audience were mostly unanimous when asked their views on who should be Mr and Ms Perfect. A few other numbers were called out as well but mostly the audience was insistent that Contestant No.1 from the males and Contestant No.11 from the females should be the ones to win. And Contestants No.1 and 11 it was! The trophy for Mr Perfect and the crown for Ms. Perfect went to the popular favourites, Randeepa Senevirathne and Sumudu Prasadini.
