Speed 2011 Championship at Pannala today

MOTOR RACING: The Motor Racing track at Pannala will be a hive activity when the maiden motor races organised jointly by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC),The Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club (SLMCC), The Motor Racing Association (MRA),and the Asian Motor Racing Club (AMRC) will conduct the motor racing championship named the “Speed 2011 Championship” at Pannala today (Sunday February 13).

This will be the first of the five round championship which will be spread through the year.

The first championship which will be held today organised by the oldest motor racing club in Sri Lanka CMSC. The other championship rounds which will all be held at the Pannala Race track. 2nd Championship round will be held on May 22 organised by the AMRC.

3rd Championship round will be held on June 26 organised by SLMCC.

4th Championship round will be held on September 18 organised by AMRC.

5th Championship round will be held on October 16 organised by the MRA.

According to the organisers this joint championship is being organised to popularise motor sports in Sri Lanka and the events will include SLGT 3500 cc, SLH 3500 cc,and the one make classes of the Mini, Nissan March, Ford Laser, Formula Ford and the Formula McLarens 1300. The championship will also make way for newcomers who will race in the Formula McLarens 1300 cc event and also the Suzuki Maruti and Alto class.The results of this championship will be taken into reckoning for the 2011 championship of the Sri Lanka Automobile Sports.

Likewise there will be a number of events for motor cycles and the results will be counted for the National championship of the Federation of Motor Cycle Sports in Sri Lanka.

The system of points will be as follows: 1st place 10 points, 2nd place 8 points,3rd place 6 points, 4th place 5 points, 5th place 4 points,6th place 3 points, 7th place 2 points, 8th place 1 point.

The overall winner in each class will be awarded a certificate and a trophy and a trophy will also be awarded to the tuner-team for each class champion.

In addition to this a trophy and a certificate will be awarded to those securing the first three places in the individual rounds.

Motorcycle events

Group O standard upto 125 cc (4 stroke) under 16 years 6 laps, Group O Standard upto 125 cc (2 stroke) 6 laps, Group O Standard upto 125 cc (4 strokes) 10 laps, Group SM Super Motard upto 250 cc (4 stroke) 6 laps, Group O Standard upto 160 cc (4 stroke) 6 laps, Group O Standard upto 250 cc (4 strokes) 10 laps, Group SM Super Motard upto 450 cc (4 strokes) 10 laps,Group R Racing and Modified upto 125 cc 6 laps,Top racing drivers and racing riders have entered this championship round which will have a bearing on the National Championship and will be crowned the National champion in each class by the respective governing bodies.
