Survey on vision problems among schoolchildren

The Health Ministry is to conduct survey on the vision problems among schoolchildren in remote areas.

Four centres are to be set up for this purpose, a top ranked officer of the Health Ministry said.

These centres are to be set up in Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Moneragala and Hambantota districts, according to the officer. These centres are to be set up by the Vision-2020 program of the Health Ministry. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) relating to the setting up of these centres was signed at the Ministry recently.

Additional Secretary, Health Ministry, Dr. Palitha Mahipala and representative of International Vision Centre Anitha Munasinghe signed the MoU.

Eye Surgeon M. Ahmad, who was present on the occasion, said Vision-2020 will implement a program in the Northern and Eastern Provinces to conduct surveys on the vision problems among the schoolchildren in the region. -MN
