during the ICC World Cup matches to be played in Colombo, DIG Traffic
Management and Road Safety and Western Province Traffic Operations Asoka
Wijetilleka said.
"We are not going to inconvenience the public during this period
unless it is very essential. We have identified a particular route for
the World Cup officials, and the teams to travel for which the Police
will privide adequate security and traffic arrangements by deploying
pilot cars and motorcycles, to guide them to the stadium and back to the
hotels," DIG Wijetilleka said.
According to him the route along D.R. Wijewardene Mawatha, Gamini
Hall roundabout, Maradana junction bridge, Panchikawatte Road, Sangaraja
Mawatha, Sumanatissa Road, Armour Street junction, Vincent Perera
Mawatha, Babapulle Place and Khettarama will be used for transporting
officials and players.
"We are enforcing 'no parking' along this route, for security
arrangements and also to avoid traffic blocks two hours before the match
starts and two hours after the match until the teams get back to their
hotels," he added.
He however said the route from Vincent Perera Mawatha, Babapulle
Mawatha and Pradeepa Mawatha and Khettarama junction will be restricted
