Radio channel for fishing community

The Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) will launch Sayura FM, a new radio channel which caters to the fishing community, by the end of March. Fisheries Ministry Media Secretary Nandana Rajapaksa said the new channel will air its programs from midnight to 4.00 am daily.

Fishermen operating in deep seas are sometimes deprived of contact with their homes for days. The new channel aims to provide them with entertainment. The fishermen and their relatives could also participate in radio discussions, he said.

The Media Secretary said the fishermen need information on industry development and new technology to improve their skills and as such Sayura FM will broadcast programs that would benefit them.
