Army camps to grow vegetables

A program to cultivate vegetables and essential food crops in unused lands in the Eastern and the Northern Province army camps was launched at Weditalativu Mannar yesterday (26) said Hadabima Authority Chairman Nandasena Herath.

He said that the programme will be extended to Buwava camp in Vavuniya, Ambagaswava, Meegasweva and Dimbulagala camps in Polonnaruwa.

The program intends to cultivating 1000 acres with essential food crops within a period of two months. Soldiers including 4900 strong civil security forces will be deployed to implement this program, he said.

The Agriculture Ministry will provide technology seeds and the tools, he said.

Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena, Northern Province governor G.A. Chandrasiri Area Military Commandos' Parliamentarians' Provincial Council Ministers participated in the inauguration ceremony at Weditalativu.
