'Lakpa' shoes in Jaffna soon
Manufacture of footwear has been launched in Vathiry Industrial
village in Vadamarachchi Jaffna on the directive of Minister of
Traditional Industries and Small Enterprise Development Douglas
Devananda.
Chandra Kannangara, the Managing Director of "Lakpa" organization,
responding to the request made by Minister Devananda has provided with
new machinery, raw materials and technology to Vathiry Industrial
Village for production of footwear.
Chandra Kannangara, visited Jaffna on 15, February and met Minister
Devananda and paid a visit to the Vathiry Industrial Village to look
into the present situation of the factory.
The employees of the factory said that they were extremely happy and
were confident that they could achieve a good success in time to come
with the help of the raw materials and technology provided to them by
the "Lakpa" organization.
Chandra Kannangara, the Managing Director of "Lakpa" Organization
said that honouring the request made by the Minister, that he was
looking forward to extend his assistance to the best of his capacity for
serving the people of Jaffna. He also said that the monthly sale of
footwear in the entire peninsula exceeded well over 300,000 pairs, and
the Vathiry Market share should be in the region of 30,000 pairs.
Minister Devananda speaking at the occasion, conveyed his thanks to
the Managing Director of "Lakpa" organization for extending its
assistance to the Vathiry Footwear Factory.
