French tourist drowns off Kalutara seas

Police have warned sea bathers to be cautious while swimming in rough seas on the Southern coast due to undercurrents.

A French tourist who had gone swimming in the sea at Waskaduwa in the Kalutara North police area drowned last Thursday, Police Media Spokesman, Superintendent of Police, Prishantha Jayakody told the Sunday Observer.

The deceased has been identified as Charles Robert Aglet, a 52-year-old from France.

His body has been handed over to his wife who accompanied him to Sri Lanka on vacation.

The couple had been vacationing at a hotel in Kalutara. The French Embassy in Sri Lanka has been notified of the sudden death and arrangements are being made to take the body to France. OIC Kalutara North Police Inspector Ajith Pitigala said the autopsy report states that death was due to asphyxia caused by drowning and they do not suspect any foul play.
