NDB Bank, DIMO to build technical skills of youth in Jaffna

NDB Bank, in collaboration with Diesel & Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) launched the second project of the NDB Jeevana Livelihood Training/Loan Scheme’ in Jaffna recently.

R. Jeyasekaran (President, Chamber of Commerce, Jaffna), K. Pooranachandran (President, Industrial Chamber of Commerce, Yarl Panam), M. Kandeepan (Branch Manager, NDB Bank), Anton Joy (Sales Executive, DIMO - Jaffna) and P. Ganesh (Instructor - DIMO) together with the students who will be following the course in automotive training.

Under this initiative, 30 youth from Jaffna were selected as eligible candidates to undergo six months of comprehensive theory and practical training in Automobile Service and Maintenance under the expertise of DIMO.

The preliminary interviews were held in Jaffna and candidates were selected based on their skills and abilities.

The training sessions offered under the guidance of DIMO will cover a range of subjects including tutorials on Basic Tools and Workshop Safety, Introduction to Engine Systems, Chassis Systems, Electrical Systems and Transmission Systems, understanding Clutch, Brakes, Front and Rear Suspension, Drive Train and Final Drives and Tires.

The training will instill skills for each trainee to handle any kind of service or maintenance for various types of vehicles. The ‘NDB Jeevana Livelihood Training/Loan Scheme’ is coupled with a special personal loan issued at a concessionary rate with a grace period for payment.

NDB Bank has targeted high demand sectors such as hospitality, motor mechanism, construction and nursing for students who wish to pursue careers in these industries but lack the facilities and financial support to do so.

The loan component will comprise an allocation for all tuition and training costs and other amenities.

The students will be entitled to a personal accident insurance cover which will be valid for the training period.

Additionally, the Bank’s CSR has also equipped the students with tool kits to be used during their training.
