Resurfacing of Galle Rd from B'pitiya, K'pitiya nearing completion
by Ranil WIJAYAPALA
The resurfacing of the section of the Galle Road from Bambalapitiya
to Kollupitiya junction which is being developed as model one way road
will be completed by the first week of April after taking steps to
expedite the work, the Special Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal
Council Omar Kamil told the Sunday Observer.
He said the work of this project was delayed as CMC has to commit
their workers for the project carried out to improve the roads leading
to R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium to host the ICC world cup
matches.
"After the completion of that project we could deploy the full
strength of the workforce for this project," he added.
Kamil said the CMC expects to deploy their workers for the Galle road
development project during night hours from next Monday as it is
difficult to work during the day due to heavy traffic along the road and
also due to hot weather prevailing these days.
"A mobile medical clinic will also be made available at the site as
many workers engaged in the project suffering from cough, cold and other
respiratory problems as they have to work when there is heavy traffic on
the road," Kamil added.
"Frequent falling ill of workers was also a factor which restricted
the progress of the project," he added.
"We expect to complete resurfacing of the road by the first week of
April and complete the balance work later," he added.
