Ministry takes steps to stabilise maize prices

The Agriculture Ministry has taken steps to prevent maize shortage in the market caused due to the floods and unfavorable weather conditions.

The price of maize will reflect on forage price, according to Agriculture Ministry sources. The Agriculture Ministry further cautioned that in case the price of forage goes up the price of egg and chicken also will go up in the market.

An special meeting was held at the Agriculture Ministry last week to discuss this problem.

The representatives of Maize Farmers Association, Maize Purchasing Companies, Animal Food Producers, officers from Agriculture Ministry, Agriculture Department, Livestock and Rural Community Development Ministry were present at the discussion.

Several decisions were taken at the discussion such as, allow maize imports for a limited period and to remove cess and other taxes.
