Sebs record sixth win in series

St. Sebastians College beat Prince of Wales' College by ten wickets in their 61st Battle of the Golds at Tyronne Fernando Stadium, Moratuwa with one hour to spare and were able to put a halt to the thirty three year jinx of draws in their Big Match series.

The last result was rewarded in 1977 and now the tally stands at Cambrians six Sebs three and rest drawn.

Sebs resuming at their overnight score of 236 for 3 on day two went on to declare at 363 for 5 with the overnight not out batsman Oshada Fernando hitting a magnificent unbeaten 129 runs. His innings contained seventeen fours and a six in 205 minutes and facing 154 balls. He was associated in two valuable partnerships for the third wicket with Charith Fernando 72 runs and 75 run 4th wicket stand with skipper Sanitha de Mel who made 43 runs.

Oshadi Fernando brought up his tally to 1141 runs in seventeen matches for the season and he could be classed as one of the best batsmen in schools at present.

Cambrians in their second essay were bowled out for 176 runs with Shehan Jayasuriya engaged in a lonely battle to save them from defeat which was no avail. Finally he was out for 79 runs with eight fours to the ropes and two over.

Opener Ashen Mendis contributed 34 runs. Former skipper Anuk de Alwis and Amila Aponso had 4 for 32 and 4 for 44 respectively.

Set to make 15 runs for the victory Sebs made it without loss
