Lyceum Wattala champs for third year running



Champ receives award... Under 19 boys champion Viyath Anthony receives award from Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa while on his right is Mohan Lal Grero - Managing Director of Lyceum International School, Wattala and Mrs. Kumari Grero - Co-ordinating Principal of Lyceum Group of Schools.

ATHLETICS: Lyceum International School, Wattala once again turned up trumps at the Inter-International Schools Athletic Championships (ISAC) getting 994 points while Gateway scored 834 points, in third place was LIS Nugegoda with 535 points.


The champ in action... Sarah Karunapala who won the under 15 girls javelin throw event in action.

The Lyceum Wattala athletes grabbed 17 challenge trophies and the athletes established 12 new meet records. They have been champions in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011.

The trophies won by Lyceum athletes were: Gateway International School Challenge Trophy for becoming the Overall Champions of the meet, additional trophy donated by Edexcel for the Overall Champions, Cambridge Challenge Trophy for relays, Nirm Sandarathne won trophy for her fine performance in the 200 metres event for girls under 17 where she established a meet record timing of 25.91 seconds. She also won the Ritzbury Challenge Cup for being the Best Female Athlete and the Optimum Q Trophy as the Best Performance of the Meet.

The Overall Championships won by the Wattala Lyceum athletes: Under 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17.

Individual Championships won by Lyceum athletes: Under 9 girls: Salma Badri, under 11 boys: Vihanga Wijesinghe, under 13 boys: Shehan Wisanperuma, Under 15 girls: Amasha Polkotuwa, Under 17 girls: Nirma Sandarathna, Under 18 boys: M. Aadil Farried/Shehan Rodrigo, under 19 boys: Viyath Anthony.

New meet records were established by: Girls under 15: Long Jump: Amasha Polkotuwa, High Jump: Sarah Karunapala, under 17 girls: 200 metres - Nirma Sandarathne, Triple Jump - Chathuri Fernando, High Jump - Divya Amunugama.

Boys under 13: High Jump - Waruna Attanayake, Long Jump - Waruna Attanayake. Boys under 17: Triple Jump - Shihan Rodrigo, 400 metres: M. Aadil Farried, under 19: 400 metres - Viyath Anthony, 4 x 100 metres, under 13, 4 x 100 metres under 17.

The Chief Guest at the meet was Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa.
