Constitutional arrangements:
Govt, TNA go for further talks

The Government and the Tamil National Alliance will continue their
talks to discuss the appropriate constitutional arrangements to meet the
political aspirations of people in Sri Lanka.
The committee level discussion between the Government and the Tamil
National Alliance was held for the third time at the Presidential
Secretariat, on Friday. Several issues with regard to the release of
Tamil detainees and the resettlement process were tabled at the meeting
between both sides.
Both sides have agreed that the information relating to the Tamil
detainees, would be made available to the next of kin and the date on
which the facility would become fully operative will be made known.
The two sides will also discuss appropriate constitutional
arrangements to meet the aspirations of people in Sri Lanka.
They also agreed to continue with their talks to arrive at a
structure to fulfil these aspirations.
The Government committee was represented by Minister of External
Affairs Prof. G.L.Peiris, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva and UPFA MP
Sachin Vas Gunawardene.
The TNA committee comprised parliamentarians Suresh Premachandran,
Mavai Senathiraja, M.A. Sumanthiran and President’s Counsel Kanaga
Easwaran. The next meeting has been scheduled for April 7. |
