CEB to provide CFL bulbs at low cost

The most economical and energy saving high quality Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) and Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs will be distributed for 4.2 million electricity consumers by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) under the `Lighting Sri Lanka' program, shortly.

According to the Power and Energy Ministry, these energy saving bulbs are freely available in the open market at exorbitant prices, but a section of electricity consumers are not in a sound financial position to buy them.

Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka told the Sunday Observer that this scheme will greatly benefit low income families since the cost of the bulbs will be deducted from their monthly electricity bills,".

Commenting on the `Lighting Sri Lanka' program, Minister Ranawaka said that 30 percent households, especially in the remote sector have still not obtained electricity due to various reasons and Government is committed to provide electricity for all of them before December 2012.
