Errant advertisers warned

The Health Ministry warned certain advertisers to refrain from deceiving people by selling various drugs and food items saying that they contain high nutrition.

Referring to an advertisement on a certain product, which is regularly telecast over electronic media, Health Ministry Senior official W.M.D. Wanninayake said this particular advertisement mentions that one in every three women in Sri Lanka suffer from a certain disease due to lack of calcium.

He highlighted that this matter was also brought to the attention of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena and said the advertiser had made such a statement even without doing any survey or a study on women in the country.

He further said some advertisers visit supermarkets and check on female customers whether they are suffering from such a disease and urge them to buy certain expensive drugs or food items that are freely available in supermarkets.
