Worldwide integration of NYK and Yusen

NYK Logistics and Kusuhara Lanka (Pvt) Ltd., said that the company will operate under the name Yusen Logistics and Kusuhara Lanka (Pvt) Ltd. from April 1, consequent to the global integration of NYK Logistics and Yusen Air and Sea Services which led to the formation of Yusen Logistics. The coming together of the companies belonging to the largest Japanese shipping entity, Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) is expected to further enhance the integrated company's global logistics services offering and enable its customers around the world to obtain all distribution functions and logistic solutions in a single package, a spokesperson for Yusen Logistics and Kusuhara Lanka said.

This development, through which the considerable expertise and resources of NYK Logistics and Yusen Air and Sea Services will be synergised in Yusen Logistics, is also expected to further improve the operational capacity of the company worldwide.

In Japan, the operations of the two companies were consolidated in October 2010. In Europe and Asia, the integration of the two companies will commence this month and be completed by March 31, 2012.

"With many local businesses planning to expand horizons and tap international markets there is a greater demand for comprehensive logistics solutions of a truly global scale," the spokesperson said.

The integration of Yusen Air and Sea Services and NYK Logistics positions Yusen Logistics perfectly to rise to this challenge since the company's network and reach will be expanded further due to this development which will also result in a substantial expansion of operational economies of scale and significantly reduce operating costs, the spokesperson said.

Customers will also benefit from the advanced technology employed by Yusen Logistics, which enables connectivity among all supply chain partners, and real-time visibility on shipment related information.

The company's extensive expertise in servicing specific industries including apparel, e-goods, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, consumer goods, alcohol, chemicals and fruits will also complement its offering to customers, the spokesperson said. Yusen Logistics and Kusuhara Lanka offers comprehensive logistics solutions including land, ocean and air transportation, warehousing, customs house brokering, value added and IT support services.

The company is a leading customs house broker in Sri Lanka that handles project cargo for large scale infrastructure projects and also offers professional services in handling personnel effects both locally and overseas. Packing, kiting, palletising, shrink wrapping, bar code scanning and labelling are among the company's value added services.

Yusen Logistics' global coverage spans over 100 countries. The company provides employment to 14,805 workers and owns 354 warehouses with 2.16 million square metres of storage space in 33 countries.

It offers an array of air and ocean freight forwarding services including full container loads, less than container loads, supply chain solutions, temperature controlled services, project logistics, customs house brokerage, consultancy (compliance), warehousing and distribution and technology related services.
