Free Lanka Granite awarded ISO 9001:2008

Free Lanka Granite (Private) Limited, a leading granite supplier and a key player in the home and decor market, was recently awarded ISO 9001:2008 Certification for quality management by Moody International. The certification was a result of the company adhering to demanding audit requirements and maintaining strict quality processes and document controls.

Free Lanka Granite is the first in the granite industry to be awarded this prestigious certification. ISO (International Organisation of Standardisation) works with the national standards institutes of more than 140 countries to establish requirements for a quality management system. The standard provides formal guidance enabling organisations to demonstrate their ability in providing products and services that meet customer requirements and strive to enhance customer satisfaction, including maintaining processes for the continual improvement and the assurance of conformity to customer requirements.

Audit firms back closer links between regulators

The six largest global accountancy firms have welcomed a co-operative agreement between US and UK audit regulators as a means to boost market confidence in the work of auditors. The heads of the six firms - BDO, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Grant Thornton, KPMG and PwC issued a joint statement welcoming the agreement between the US Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.

Ranasoma on Hayleys Board

Hayleys PLC has appointed Dr Mahesha Ranasoma to its Board from April 1.

Dr Ranasoma will also take over as Managing Director of Dipped Products PLC from J.A.G. Anandarajah, effective April 1.

Dr. Ranasoma was appointed to the Board of Dipped Products PLC in August 2010. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Country Chairman and Managing Director of Shell Gas Lanka Limited and Shell Terminal Lanka Limited.
