Pepiliyana grand Vesak zone

For the first time, the Pepiliyana area has been converted to a major Vesak zone with pandals, seven dan salas, Bakthi Gee and even a vesak lantern competition being held for a week from May 17. Special religious ceremonies too will be held during the period.

Chief Incumbent of the Sunethra Devi Temple, Pepiliyana Ven. Welampitiya Sumanadharma said that this is the first time that a Vesak Zone is being hosted in Pepiliyana and one of the main reasons for this is to celebrate Vesak as well as the Sambuddhathva Jayanthi celebrations.

He said that they hold also having a contest for the Vesak lanterns and the winners would receive over Rs. 100,000 in prizes. In addition there would also be two pandols at Pepiliyana during the Vesak week.

He said that this would be an annual feature and more events would be there in future. Special traffic arrangements too would be made where part of the Pepiliyana-Dehiwela road would be closed.

Minister of Labour Gamini Lokuge will be the Chief Guest at the event.
