Trinity and Mahamaya on top in Education Department athletic meet

ATHLETICS: Trinity College and Mahamaya Girls College won the Education Department's four-day athletic meet for boys and girls in the kandy district.

There were 116 schools from the Kandy education circuit that participated at the meet.

Both Trinity and Mahamaya won the meet for the second time, with Trinity winning the boys section with 247 points and Mahamaya winning the girls section with 311 points.

Besides the championship events, there was a novelty event for the officials named as "Mixed Relay Event" - a 4X100 relay which turned out to be interesting.

The chief guest at the meet was the Governor of Central Province - Tikiri Kobbekaduwa.

 


Winner of 400 metres boys under 19 - D. K. Athurupane of Trinity College who won the race received award from Chief Minister of Central Province Sarath Ekanayake.

Top three in under 13 girls 100 metres...... The record-breaker...... M.S. Saleemdeen of Trinity College who established two records - two records - in 400 metres hurdles and50.01 seconds in 400 metres flat race.
