Minister Weerawansa at UN Sambuddhatva Jayanthi celebrations

Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and
Common Amenities Wimal Weerawansa takes part in the Sri
Sambuddhatva Jayanthi commemorative ceremony at the UN
headquarters.

Global warming and other devastating environmental changes have been
brought about by Man's selfish behaviour, said Construction, Engineering
Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
The Minister told a commemorative meeting of Sri Sambuddhatva
Jayanthi 2600 at the United Nations headquarters in New York, that it is
time for all civilised people to look back and realise what has gone
wrong.
"We are forced by the Law of Nature to re-discover ourselves. The
Buddha's path to enlightened social living would help us".
The Minister said people should exert pressure on their leaders to
stop exploiting and subjugating fellow nations, so that a peaceful world
with no room for hunger and ignorance could be ensured.
