Fishermen using the Kudawella fisheries
harbour continue to pollute the water by discarding all
refuse into the sea within the harbour area. It would be
prudent if the relevant authorities take steps to clear at
least the sea shore within the harbour, educate the users to
be more environment friendly and enforce the existing laws

Children’s art exhibition: A Children’s
art exhibition organised by the Ambalangoda Children’s Art
Circle under the patronage of Ambalangoda Educational Zone
will be held from May 27 - 29 at the Colombo Art Gallery.
Education Minister Bandula Gunawardene will open the
Exhibition on the first day. |
Ven. Rekawa Gunasiri Thera passes away
Most Ven. Rekawa Gunasiri Thera, Chief Incumbent of
the Dharmarama Maha Viharaya, Panadura and Mahanayake of the
Amarapura Siri Saddharma Yukthika (Matara) Maha Nikaya, passed away
on Friday.
Born in 1920 in Hambantota, he was ordained on March
21, 1935. He obtained higher ordination (Upasampada) in 1940. He
received Dhamma education at Dharma Vijaya Pirivena, Kalutara,
Sirinandana Pirivena, Panadura and at the Vidyodaya Pirivena,
Maligakanda.
He developed the Kaludewala Temple to a fully
fledged temple by 1994. He has authored a number of Dhamma books,
including books containing the Dhamma in verse.
Free English course for bhikkhus

The English Sri Lanka National Program will launch a project to
provide basic English knowledge to 2,600 Bhikkhus to enable there to
spread the Dhamma in English.
Bhikkus willing to follow the program could make a hand-written
application with Viharadhipathi’s recommendation before June 15 to
English Sri Lanka Secretariat, 42/9, Rosmead Place, Colombo 7.
