by Ananda KANNANGARA
The Health Ministry yesterday announced the elimination of the dengue
epidemic countrywide to a greater extent and urged social service
organisations, Local Government Authorities as well as general public to
extend their co-operation further to make this program a success.
Health Minister Maithreepala Sirisena told the Sunday Observer that
only 1,839 dengue patients have been reported during the first five
months of this year, as a result of precautionary measures taken by
relevant parties including the Dengue Task Force (DTF), appointed by
President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
According to Ministry statistics only 49 deaths were reported during
this period in comparison with highest number of deaths that were
reported during the corresponding period last year.
