Laugfs to enter education sector
Laugfs Holdings further diversifying its business
in the country plans to enter the education sector. Chairman Laugfs
Holdings, W.K.H. Wegapitiya said that the the company plans to enter
the education sector by setting up an institution offering higher
education this year.

Sri Lanka, B'desh to expedite development projects
Sri Lanka and Bangladesh have agreed to
strengthen economic relations between the two countries by speeding
up implementing long overdue projects of the Lanka-Bangladesh Joint

Drop in hotel occupancy
Despite a sharp rise in the number of tourist
arrivals, the hotel occupancy rate this month has dropped
drastically, according to officials of the Tourist Hotels
Association of Sri Lanka. A senior official of the Association said
that many hotels across the country reported a very low occupancy
rate this month.

Govt. to invest Rs. 251 b in North
The government will invest Rs. 251 billion in
the North from 2011-2013 with 50.9 billion planned for 2011 alone.
In the East, Rs. 116 billion had been invested from 2006 to 2010
while in 2011 Rs. 26.6 billion of investments are planned for the
East, said the Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal.
