Central Province Governor Tikiri Kobbekaduwa opens Mahamaya cricket net

CRICKET: 14th June is a day to be remembered by Mahamaya Girls College, Kandy as it was on that day that the game of cricket really took its place with the school erecting a net for practice by the girls who are interested in cricket.

The cricket net has come up behind the school swimming pool and it is the cherished dream by the girls as they don't have to bother going elsewhere for their practices.

This is probably the second cricket net by a girls school in Kandy, the first is probably the one put up by Berawerts College, Ampitiya through the kind courtesy of Thilanga Sumathipala when he was president of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board.

The Principal of Mahamaya - Indra Withanachchi while taking a keen interest in the studies of the students, has also taken a keen interest in the extra-curricular activities of the students and the keen interest taken by her has produced results on the sports field.

Mahamaya has done well in swimming, badminton, athletics and they are keen about the girls learning the game of cricket too.
