Pan Asia opens in Dambulla

Pan Asia Bank expanded its branch network recently with the opening of a branch on Kandy Road, Dambulla.

Provincial Councillor, Central Province Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon, Mayor, Municipal Council Dambulla Jaliya Opatha and Chairman Pan Asia Bank A.G.Weerasinghe participated.

Chaminda Pallegedara heads Pan Asia Bank Dambulla Branch.


Japan - Sri Lanka Business Co-operation Meeting

Dr. Sarath Amunugama delivered the keynote address at the opening of the Japan - Sri Lanka Business Co-operation committee meeting in Tokyo, Japan on June 20.

The meetings are held as a part of the committee's efforts to promote Japanese investment in Sri Lanka and bilateral trade, tourism and services between the countries and are co-ordinated by the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Tokyo and the Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka.


Senanayake steps down as Deputy Chairman SMB

After 14 years at the helm of Seylan Merchant Bank (SMB), its successor SMB Leasing and the SMB Group, Rohan Senanayake is to relinquish his position as Deputy Chairman.

Senanayake who was appointed Director/General Manager of SMB in September 1997 will continue his association with SMB Leasing as a non-executive director, devoting time to his enduring interest in fund management and corporate finance activities.

Theagarajah on WUSC Board

Managing Director/CEO Hatton National Bank, Rajendra Theagarajah has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the World University Service of Canada (WUSC). The decision was made recently at the Ottawa Board of Directors meeting and approved by the Chair of WUSC, Maureen O'Neill.

Theagarajah lives in Colombo and is the only Asian member of the WUSC Board of Directors. He will provide a much appreciated private sector voice to the Board's deliberations.


Etisalat sponsors SAMC

Etisalat continues to support development of mobile technology by sponsoring the 2011 South Asian Mobile Conference. The event looks to expand and evolve the scope and quality of mobile technologies in a South Asian context.


Solutions for evolving workforce from Dell

Dell introduced 24 new business computing solutions and form factors, including laptops, tablets, desktops and workstation computers recently. These include the Dell Latitude E5420, E5520, E6220, E6320, E6420, E6520 and E6420 ATG laptops; OptiPlex 990, 790 and 390 desktops; OptiPlex Small Form Factor All-in-One Solution, Precision T1600 desktop workstation and Dell Precision M4600 mobile workstation. Country Manager, Dell Sri Lanka Shermal Jayatilaka said, "As the workforce continues to evolve, so will Dell, with the solutions both end-users and IT organisations need to improve efficiency and productivity regardless of the device they choose."


Designer Roller Doors wins Best Product Award

Designer Roller Doors won the Best Product Award for the second consecutive year at the recent 'Kedella 2011' construction exhibition. Minister of Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities, Wimal Weerawansa handed over the award to Managing Director Amil Industries Gihan A. Abeysundara.


HNB opens customer centre in Ginigathena

Hatton National Bank (HNB) opened a customer centre in Ginigathena recently. The Chief Guest was Deputy General Manager (Services) Piyal Hennayake and the Guest of Honour was Chairman Ginigathena Pradeshiya Sabha V Dinesh Kumar. Senior Manager Central Region Nirosh De Silva was also present.


Neighbourhood Speed launched

Speed Water Systems launched its marketing concept Neighbourhood Speed taking another step in the bottled water industry of Sri Lanka.

“The Neighbourhood Speed concept was introduced in accordance with my vision making water more available and affordable for all,” Speed Managing Director Nishantha Delgoda told the Sunday Observer.

Speed has 25 franchise water shops and over 25 distributors and area distributors for water distribution,” Delgoda said. The company was the first to launch the water shops concept in Sri Lanka and the oxygenated water, Kids water and speed ice.


COYLE raises concerns over UN report

The Chamber of Young Lankan Entrepreneurs (COYLE), recently submitted a memorandum to the United Nations Secretary General (UNSG) expressing its concernover the contents and flaws in the Darusman Report. The memorandum was handed over to Tom Hockley, Resident Coordinator of the UN in Colombo.

Through this memorandum COYLE urged the UNSG in the best interests of all communities in the country, to withdraw the report and to support the efforts of the government so that it could evolve sustainable solutions for the issues the country is faced with.


Kelaniya Uni deploys Arpico Green Gas unit

The Medical Faculty of the University of Kelaniya, Ragama recently set up an Arpico Green Gas unit at the faculty premises. Arpico Plastishells Ltd, paving the way in organic and liquid waste management, introduced the island’s first Green Gas unit providing households, hotels, restaurants, manufacturing plants, and businesses to produce bio gas through organic waste.


Jetwing Blue opens

The official opening of Jetwing Blue, after a massive transformation program with Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa as the Chief Guest took place recently. “Bringing Jetwing Blue to what it is today has been no easy task, we faced many hurdles along the way. In many aspects, the transformation of Blue Oceanic is comparable to the journey of Jetwing, with a renewal of the values that have brought us to where we are today”, said Chairman Jetwing, Hiran Cooray. “Our new brand identity reinforces our core values, and embodies our passion to develop and strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as a premier tourist destination”, he said.
