NBEA 2011 - Benchmark of excellence in business

The National Business Excellence Awards 2011 (NBEA)organised by the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka (NCCSL) for the eighth consecutive year will be held on November 30 at the Hilton Colombo.

NBEA is recognised as a benchmark of excellence among the business community, said President NCCSL Asoka Hettigoda at the launch of the awards last week. The scheme was initiated eight years ago to reward the best in business.

Over the years NCCSL has improved and increased the number of sectors for which awards are given. Every business enterprise in the country is eligible to apply and win an award said Hettigoda.

Very high professional standards are maintained in evaluating applicants.

A total of eighty one awards in the categories of small, medium, large and extra large with gold, silver and bronze winners in each category will be made.

Agriculture and plantations, banking and finance, construction, gem and jewellery, healthcare and related services, hospitality, ICT services, insurance, livestock and fisheries, printing and related services, infrastructure and utilities, logistics and transport, shipping and related services, associations sector, services, media services, diversified manufacturing, engineering, food and beverage, apparel, textiles and leather, chemical and ceramic, state sector and non traditional exports are the sectors, said Hettigoda.

The panel of judges is headed by Director Post Graduate Institute of Management, Professor Uditha Liyanage while the other members of the panel are eminent professionals. The panel is supported by an advisory committee.

Prof Liyanage said that the NBEA is a unique national awards scheme as it evaluates the overall performance of a company and selects the cream.

The main sponsor is Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel and the print media sponsors are Daily News and Sunday Observer.
