by Ananda KANNANGARA
Power and Energy Minister, Patali Champika Ranawaka told Pradeshiya
Sabhas and Urban Councils countrywide to keep a close tab on street
lights burning between 7.00 p.m. to 5.00 a.m. considering the severe
drought in catchment areas.
The Minister warned senior officials of Pradeshiya Sabhas and Urban
Councils to be more cautious on this matter and take steps to educate
the public towards the importance of saving energy.
Minister Ranawaka told the Sunday Observer that at this crucial
moment where there is no indication of rains in the main catchment
areas, it is the duty of everybody to look into this matter in a
positive way and help the Government’s Energy Conservation Program,”. In
addition, the Minister also appealed to domestic electricity consumers
to pay more attention towards energy saving when using bulbs,
refrigerators, television sets, fans, irons, water motors and other
electric appliances.
