Scouts promote Lanka’s image in Sweden
The Sri Lankan scout contingent attending the 22nd World Scout
Jamboree in Sweden used their 10-day World Jamboree to promote the image
of the island as a peaceful destination for lovers of wildlife,
eco-tourism and sightseeing.
The jamboree organisers had set up a special exhibition centre to
showcase the image of participating countries. The 122-member Lankan
contingent, headed by Attorney-at-Law Janaprith Fernando took time off
to present the true image of Sri Lanka to other nations.
During this summer 38,000 scouts with over 1,000 adult leaders have
camped at Rinkaby in the Kristianstad Municipality area in the southern
tip of Sweden bordering Denmark. Businessmen, hoteliers and
entrepreneurs were among the large gathering invited for this special
exhibition.
Visitors to the Sri Lankan exhibition site were presented with a
promotional kit of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board containing details about
Sri Lanka in print and electronic format.Journalists, entrepreneurs and
university students showed a keen interest in the developments that took
place in the country since President Mahinda Rajapaksa became the
President in 2005, especially the defeat of terrorism and the dawn of
peace.
