Army Taekwondo Players fly flags in Malaysian International
Tournament

Sri Lanka Army soldiers who represented the country at the
6th Malaysian Open Taekwondo championship held in Kuala
Lumpur

TAEKWONDO; Soldiers of Sri Lanka Army who represented the country at
the 6th Malaysian Open Taekwondo championship held at Kuala Lumpur from
15th to 18th July were able to bring honour to the Army and the country,
winning one gold medal, one silver medal and one bronze medal.
Out of the six players of the Army Taekwondo pool who took part in
the tournament, Private H.P.M.C.T. Senaratne at middleweight category,
Sergeant H.M.A. Karunaratne at open Poomse category and Private A.P.D.
Madhusanka at lightweight category won the gold, silver and bronze
medals respectively.
Over 1,500 contestants representing 27 sports clubs of 15 countries
competed at the tournament. M e a n w h i l e , another group of players
of the Army Taekwondo pool are out from the country to take part in the
International Defence Services Taekwondo tournament being held in
Brazil.
Soldiers are now attending daily practice sessions in Jaffna under
the supervision of President Army Taekwondo Committee Brigadier
B.C.J.A.F. Rodrigo to take part in Indian Open Taekwondo Championship to
be held in India soon. Army Taekwondo players have been conducting
classes for Jaffna youth and schoolchildren free of charge to upgrade
