New A-bomb exhibits to highlight Hiroshima peace ceremony
HIROSHIMA, Japan, Aug. 6, Xinhua: Two exhibitions with new arrivals
of A-bomb materials and documents will highlight this year’s peace
ceremony in Japan’s Hiroshima on Saturday to mourn the victims of the
1945 U.S. atomic bombing of the city.
An exhibition featuring articles scarred by the bombing, including
leather shoes and melted tiles, and photographs of the city before the
bombing has been on display since June 17. The 149 exhibits are among
577 items donated by the A-bomb survivors and the family of victims last
year.
Besides, a special exhibition entitled “ To Live -August 6, 1945-From
That Day Forth” was kicked off on July 15 to add to the events at the
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. The exhibits included a list of foreign
students who were studying in a couple of universities based Hiroshima
at the time of atomic bombing.
Some 10,000 visited the museum on Friday. The Hiroshima municipal
government also introduced foreign delegates to the museum on Friday.
Mwenda B. Raphael, minister-counsellor at the Embassy of the
Democratic Republic of Congo in Japan offered flowers to the victims at
the memorial cenotaph, which is located almost at the center of the
Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park after viewing the exhibits. Raphael told
Xinhua he hoped everyone in the world would enjoy peace, and experience
no atomic bombings and conflicts.
According to government data, representatives from 68 countries will
attend the upcoming peace ceremony. |
