Original lands for displaced people
by L.S. Ananda WEDAARACHCHI
The Government has decided to resettle displaced people in the North
and the East in their original lands, said Lands and Lands Development
Minister Janaka Bandara Tennekoon.
The minister said that some people had lost their land permits.
Documents in government institutions have been destroyed and the
ownership of some lands has been changed due to the influence of
terrorist groups, the minister said.
He said that the Cabinet had taken a policy decision to look into the
grievances of displaced people and relocate them in their original
lands.
People who left the country due to LTTE terror could also claim
ownership of their lands by sending applications online to the
Divisional Secretaries, the minister said.
