Science Olympiad student appeals for donations
The students who attained the highest marks at the Grade Five
Scholarship examination which was held in 2010 were selected for the
International Mathematics and Science Olympiad Competition 2011.
The competitors were selected under the guidance and instructions of
the Ministry of Education and an equal number of the best students was
selected from each province, a media release from the Director of
Education (Science) I. P. Vipulasena said.
He said the Science Branch of the Ministry of Education conducted a
National Competition for these bright students and selected the best
finalists in the island. The 12 best students who were selected are
eligible to represent Sri Lanka at the International Competition in the
City of Naga, Philippines from September 2 to 6. However, D. K.
Deependra Dewagiri who was selected for the international competition is
unable to bear his expenses, and will be restrained from participating
as a result.
The expenses per student for food and accommodation will be $650
(approx. Rs. 75,000) plus airfare.
