Matara girls show keen-interest in Cricket

The girls who participated in the cricket tournament. They showed keen interest in the game. The teachers in charge of teams also encouraged the girls along with coach Prasanna Galappathi and talent scout Pathma de Silva.

CRICKET: Sri Lanka Cricket held a ladies cricket tournament at the Uyanwatte Stadium, Matara with a view of selecting talented players for the women's team in the fast developing district.

There were quite a number of girls who showed promise of catching up with the game. Five teams comprising eight members each participated in a seven overs per side knock-out tournament.

Sri Sumangala College, Weligama emerged winners beating Vijitha Central College, Dickwella in the final.

The other teams that played in the tournament were: Sujatha Girls School Matara, Anura Vidyalaya Matara and Narandeniya Central College, Kamburupitiya.

The tournament was organized by Prasanna Galappaththi - Sri Lanka Cricket's district coach for Matara.

Assistant Coordinator for Women's Cricket at Sri Lanka Cricket, Pathma wasted no time and picked 15 girls who showed talent in the game.
