2nd International Festival of Biotechnology - India:

Nalanda College wins first place


The winning team with their teachers : R: Nilmini Nanayakkara, Gayashan Sumendra, Osanda Wijesundara, Sandunil Kavishan, Rakitha Duleepa, Visura Pathirana, Damsara Ranasinghe, Dulanga de Alwis and Pramitha Galappaththi.

Nalanda College, Colombo won first place at the 2nd International Festival of Biotechnology held at the CMS Rajendra Nagar Campus - 1 Lucknow, India. Fifty-six schools representing Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Pakistan and Russia participated in the Festival. Ananda, D. S. Senanayake College and Isipathana Colleges were among the contestants. The Nalanda team, included Visura Pathirana, Dulanga de Alwis, Rakitha Duleepa, Gayashan Sumendra, Osanda Wijesundara, Dansara Ranasinghe, Sandunil Kavishan won the junior championship. The trophies they won are College 2 prize Trophy, Manifestation, Power Point Presentation, Consolation Prize, Transformation and Turn Coat.

Nalanda College Principal, Ranjith Jayasundara, Vice Principal and the staff, OBA members received the winners at the Katunayake BIA airport.

Later, the college OBA hosted a special dinner for the team and their parents at a leading hotel in Wattala. - L.S .A.W

 


A novel way to learn

The eighth personality development programme of 'Kent Ridge Junior+ Developing Future Leaders' will be held at SSC (Sinhalese Sports Club) during the school vacation. The programme will be held on Sunday, August 28 for children between 9 to 15 years.

This memorable experience aimed at developing the leadership and team working capabilities of children where aerobics, sharing of stories by role models, team games and simulations will be used to impart learning and boost the morale of participants. It will be conducted by a group of experts in Outbound training who have conducted several programmes for adults, youth and children including students of Moratuwa University, prefects of Visakha Vidyalaya and children of NDB bank employees.

The key learning objectives would focus on working with teams, taking leadership, developing positive attitudes, making children think creatively, discovering hidden talents, managing time and taking independent decision in need. The languages of instructions will be English and Sinhala.

This time too, the Junior Observer is the Print Media Partner while Protinex-Life will stimulate the programme, being the Strategic Partner. Safety and security will be a key priority and standards of similar international programmes will be observed. The programme will be conducted by locally and internationally qualified, well experienced trainers. The investment would be Rs. 2,500/= including lunch, morning and evening snacks where each participant will be given a workbook and awarded a certificate.
