Yala harvest begins: Maha season paddy still in stores

The Yala paddy harvest has commenced throughout the country including the North and the East. Paddy will be harvested in 501,017 - hectare land area till end of June, according to Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute. The people who usually purchase paddy and the rice mill owners normally used to distribute their stored Maha Season paddy to the market with the commencing of the Yala season, the Institute sources said.

The stocks purchased during the last Maha Season are still in stores The Institute expressed fear that with the commencing of Yala Paddy harvest whether the paddy price would go down.
