Sports Associations given Rs. 13 million for preparations for SABG
BEACH GAMES: The inaugural South Asian Beach Games (SABG) will be
held in Hambantota from October 8 to 17. Udaya R. Seneviratne presented
cheques worth Rs. 13 million to the sports associations that will be
taking part in the 10 sports events to carry forward their training for
the various training in connection with the Games.
The countries that will participate at the Games are: Sri Lanka,
India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Maldives, Afghanistan and Pakistan. The
Ministry of Sports said that Sri Lanka will participate in Basketball,
Handball, Kabaddi, Equestrian, Yachiting, Swimming, Sailing, Football
and Bodybuilding. Various sports associations have already commenced
their training for the South Asian Beach Games. The Ministry says that
they have already given a grant of five million rupees in the first
phase and the second phase, they gave a grant of 18 million.
Sri Lanka will hope to win many medals at the Beach Games. The
Ministry of Sports says that Sri Lanka have capable sportsmen and
sportswomen should be able to win medals in Netball, Volleyball,
Basketball, Handball and Bodybuilding events.
