Public Service Club, Kandy celebrates 65th anniversary on grand
scale

Anniversary celebrations: The Public Service Sports Club Kandy will
celebrate the 65th anniversary this year by organising a sports day
soon.
It was in 1946 under the colonial era that the Government Agent of
Kandy Sir Richard Aluvihare felt the need for a sports club for public
servants for their recreational activities.
For the up-coming celebrations the following activities will be
carried out:-
1. Six-a-side cricket tournament for the members.
2. Walking Races for age groups:30-35, 35-40, 40-45, 45-50, 55-60,
65-70 and over 70 years.
3. Invitation cricket tournament for girls schools in Kandy. The
ceremonies will be held under the patronage of the Governor of Central
Province Tikiri Kobbekaduwa and the guest of honour will be the
Government Agent, Kandy Gamini Seneviratne. A sports Souvenir in
connection with the festival will be published. A meeting of the
organising committee will be held today (Sunday August 21) at 10 a.m. at
the Club House to finalise details regarding the celebrations.
