IRS to expand its services in Lanka

Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) an internationally recognised Ship Classification Society, which is a member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) will expand operations in Sri Lanka.

IRS Chairman Capt. Anand congratulates D.A.DN. Ranasinghe of Sri Lal Marine Services (PVT) Ltd.

"The rapid economic development taking place in Sri Lanka provides opportunities for the IRS through division Indian Register of Shipping Industrial Services (IRSIS) and Indian Register Quality Systems (IRQS) to be a partner in Sri Lanka's progress to prosperity by providing a quality service." said IRS, Chairman Capt. J.C. Anand. IRS has set up its first overseas office in Sri Lanka.

Apart from its traditional role as a ship classification society, IRS provides independent third party inspection services to land based industries for IRS machinery, plant, equipment and components through its department IRSIS.

IRSIS provides services to a wide spectrum of industry, ranging from general engineering, oil and gas, power and energy, infrastructure and civil construction projects. IRSIS provides services ranging from inspection to complete project management.

The clientele in India includes organisations such as ONGC, British Gas, HPCL, Vedanta Aluminum, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, Goa Shipyard Ltd and IOCL.

IRSIS has offices across India and eight offices abroad while it has provided third party inspection in countries such as London, China, Greece, Thailand, Korea, Dubai, USA and Singapore.

IRS provides system certification services through its department IRQS to international standards. Including ISO 9001, accredited for quality management system certification for 35 different sectors, TS 16949, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 22000 and ISO 27001.

IRQS was the first certification body in Asia to be directly accredited by Raad voor Accreditatie (RvA, Netherlands) and is also accredited by National Accreditation Board for Certification Bodies (NABCB), India and IATF, USA.

IRQS has to date issued more than 3000 certificates to various national and multi national organisations including Tata Steel, ONGC and the Reserve Bank of India.
