Importance of transport services stressed

Transport services hold a commanding position in the lives of the people. They play an integral role in communication.

Without an efficient transport service people will face not only immense problems in their daily lives, but also economic hardships, said Chief Minister of the Central Province Sarath Ekanayake.

He made these observations at a meeting of private bus operators and officials of the Sri Lanka Transport Board and Central Province Passenger Transport Authority at an event in Kandy.

Chief Minister Ekanayake said the lack of good transport services will badly affect the economy as well as the people.

To ensure a proper service, the buses must be well maintained, and should transport commuters safely and comfortably to their destinations on time, he said.
