Computers for 18 schools in Hewaheta
by S.M. Jiffrey ABDEEN - Kandy South Group Corr.
People have become increasingly dependent on computers. The referee
the young and old be computer literate, siad the Chief Minister of the
Central Province Sarath Ekanayake.
He was addressing a ceremony at which the Chief Ministry's office
provided computers to 18 schools in the Hewaheta region.
Chief Minister Ekanayake said that various institutions conduct
studies in computer science and the computer business in Kandy is
popular and a large number of shops has sprung up all over the city.
He said that the world has become smaller with the advancement in
Information Technology or ICT as it is popularly known. You have access
to news and knowledge with the mere press of a button, and there is
hardly any need to look for books or periodicals to get information.
There is the electronic mail or email where you could correspond with
anyone in any part of the world and get a reply within minutes which had
reduced the normal post to snail mail.
If you have friends and relations in other countries you can converse
with them as if they are close to you in what is called 'Skype' which is
comparatively cheaper to IDD calls.
These are the advantages in computers and internet services and
children should make the best use of the services provided by the
government under the Mahinda Chinthana.
