CRICKET: Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa has got a new cricket
coach Suranga Wijenayake who captained the school team in 1995/96
season. He was the runner-up to the Best Bowler in the Sunday Observer
Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year contest in 1993, 1994 and 1995.
He has been fine cricketer himself and in Prince of Wales 'Big Match'
against St. Sebastian's, Wijenayake set a record, taking 7 for 33.
Wijenayake also played the game and against the English schoolboys
under-19 team and won the Man of the Match award by scoring 50 and
taking 6 for 61. He had many other awards coming his way. He also toured
India with the Sri Lanka under 20 and also played for Sri Lanka 'A'
against South Africa and West Indies. He became a coach at Prince of
Wales after a stint with Isipatana College. He succeeds Lantra Fernando,
also a past Cambrian coach.
