Waving robotic crab arm attracts females

Female fiddler crabs prefer males who can out wave their neighbours, report researchers at the 13th Congress of the European Society for Evolutionary Biology. Male crabs advertise their quality as a potential mate to passing females by waving their large yellow claws.

Ethiopia urges protected aid corridors for Somalia

Ethiopia has called for humanitarian corridors in Somalia to be protected by peacekeepers, so that aid can reach famine-hit areas held by rebels. Prime Minister Meles Zenawi suggested the move at a regional summit in Kenya on the East Africa drought and famine.
