Vocational training for the blind

Minister of Youth Affairs, Dullas Alahapperuma is taking steps to facilitate vocational training for the blind and visually impaired. This was decided at a discussion held between the Minister and Senior President, Disability Organisations Joint Front W.M.D. Rathnasekara.

To realise this mission, the Ministry of Vocational and Technical Training has already nominated two lecturers for further training to teach the visually impaired.

The Vocational Training Authority of Sri Lanka offers courses in fashion and beauty, computer literacy, computer programming, mechanical engineering and self-employment such as curd production for differently abled persons at the National Vocational Training Institute at Narahenpita.

In the future, the Ministry hopes to introduce more vocational training programs to benefit the blind and visually impaired, under the umbrella of the National Vocational Training Institute and its branches islandwide.
