IMF: Global economy needs collective action now
IMF chief Christine Lagarde has called for
countries to “act now and act together” to keep on the path to
economic recovery. “We are by no means strangers, and we are linked
by a common destiny,” she said at the annual meeting of the IMF and
the World Bank in Washington.

India: Half a dollar a day ‘adequate’, says panel
Half a dollar a day is “adequate” for an Indian
villager to spend on food, education and health, the country’s main
planning body has said. Critics say that the amount fixed by the
Planning Commission is extremely low and aimed at “artificially”
reducing the number of poor who are entitled to state benefits.
