Dutch Court jails five Tiger activists
A Dutch court sentenced the five LTTE activists
accused of raising Euro 130 million for the group to serve between
two to six years in prison in a verdict delivered on Friday. Dutch
police arrested all five men in June 2010 after an investigation
into the Tiger organisation. Despite the ruling that upheld the
prosecution charges the court did not recognise the LTTE as a
terrorist organisation instead described it as a banned organisation
and the conflict in Sri Lanka a “non-international armed conflict,”

US citizens arrested with gold at BIA:
Smuggling ring or genuine travellers?
The couple was approaching the immigration
counter at the BIA after the airline check-in, when they were hailed
by Customs officials at 10.30 pm on Sunday, October 16. The old
woman and the middle aged person who claimed to be her son, inquired
as to what the problem was.

Police raid ganja plantations in Udawalawe and Hambegamuwa
The crackdown launched by the government on drug
dealers has stemmed the flow of heroin into the country pushing up
the price of heroin (brown sugar). This has led to an enormous
demand for indigenous drugs such as Ganja (Cannabis sativa) in the
