The Defence Forces and the Civil Defence Force with the support of the Urban Development Authority and the Ceylon Electricity Board opened a public park at Independence Square yesterday. Housing facilities and a block of land worth over Rs. 24 million were provided to disabled War Heroes under the Ranaviru Welfare Scheme, at a ceremony held at the Army Indoor Stadium recently. The project was launched on a concept by the S.L. Army Seva Vanitha President Manjulika Jayasuriya. Defence and Urban Development Ministry Seva Vanitha President Ioma Rajapaksa was the chief guest at the occasion. Army Commander Lt. General Jagath Jayasooriya and Senior Army officers and Seva Vanitha members participated.
