Iranian films in Colombo

The Cultural Section of the Islamic Republic of Iran will screen films by award winning Iranian artists in its auditorium on the first and last Wednesdays of every month due to the popular demand for Iranian films among Sri Lankan audiences.

The inaugural show will be screened on December 7, at the auditorium of the Cultural Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, at Sir Earnest de Silva Mawathe, Colombo 7.

The shows will be sub titled in English for the benefit of local viewers.

The shows will commence at 5.30 p.m. The Cultural Section of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran as invited prominent artists in the film industry and journalists for the inaugural session.

Admission is free.


'Mosaic' choral concert today

The award-winning Asteria Female Voice Choir is joined by the Cantabile Children's Choir and other singing groups in this Christmas season's first choral event, the concert 'Mosaic' today at 7 p.m. at the British School auditorium.

In addition to the Asteria Choir, directed by Mahen Peiris, 'Mosaic' will also feature jazz vocalist and guitarist Rukshan Perera with the voices of Dr. Gananath Dassanayaka and Friends.

The Junior and Intermediate Choirs of Prashalini Peiris' Cantabile School of Singing are featured in guest performances.

Musical backing for the choirs is provided by well known musicians Kisholi Mathiaperanam on piano and keyboards, Neranjan de Silva on keyboards, Sumudi Suraweera on drums and Ashane Bernard on keyboards.

The Asteria Choir, which has been performing for over two years, won the Best Overall Performance Award as well as the prize in the Open category at the 2010 All-Island Choral Competition conducted by the Institute of Western Music and Speech.


Schoolgirl appeals for help

R. M. Srimali Dimuthu Kumari, an A/L student and a sportswoman of Medagama National School, in Moneragala District is suffering from acoustic neuroma. She needs Gammaknife Radiation to save her life, which is not available in Sri Lanka.

Senior Consultant Oncologist, National Cancer Institute, Maharagama Dr. Jayantha Balawardhane has advised her to undergo medical treatment at Apollo Speciality Hospital in Chennai, India.

The total cost of the operation and other expenses will cost around Rs. 21 lakhs.

A father of six children, R. M. Kiribanda appeals to the generous pubic to contribute to save her life by remitting to her account at Bank of Ceylon, Dambagalla, A/C No. 72245759.

Needs O positive kidney

S.H.B. Piyatissa of Pahala Pihibiya, Nagollagoda is suffering from a severe kidney ailment with both his kidneys badly damaged. He has been advised urgent 'O' positive kidney transplant by Consultant Dr. M.L.B. Nazar.

Isipathana Colours Nite tomorrow

The Isipathana College Annual Colours Night will be held tomorrow (Monday) at the Navarangahala (Royal College) from 6.00pm onwards.

The ceremony is organised by the Old Boys' Association and the School Development Society.

Ana Saranapala is the chief guest and Sriyantha Rajakaruna will grace the occasion as the guest of honour.
