World Hindi Day celebrations

The "World Hindi Day" a full day event organised by Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo, with the cooperation of the institutions that teach Hindi in Colombo as well as in neighbouring areas, will be held on January 10. The morning session of the program will include poetry, speech, essay, reading, copy writing and skit competitions.

The competitions will be held at the Indian Cultural Centre auditorium on January 10 from 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. A number of cultural programmes such as dances, rendition of songs, skits, instrumental and vocal music also will be held on the same day from 3.00 p.m to 6.p.m at the New Town Hall Theatre, Green path, Colombo 7. The winning Institution / individuals will be awarded.


Talk on wildlife 'Tigers in the wild'

Valmik Thapar

A slide lecture titled "Tigers in the wild" by Valmik Thapar organised by the Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo in association with Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies and Ruk Rakaganno will be held on January 9 at 6.30 p.m. at BCIS auditorium, BMICH, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 7.

Valmik Thapar is an Indian natural historian and a wildlife documentary film maker. He is the author of 14 books and several articles, and has produced a range of programs for television. Thapar is recognised as one of India's most famous wildlife experts and conservationists, having produced and narrated documentaries on India's natural habitat for such media as the BBC, Animal Planet, Discovery and National Geographic. In particular he has spent decades following the fortunes of India's tiger population.

His most recent book is The Last Tiger was published by Oxford University Press. His famous relationship with 'Macchli' a female tigress is documented in some of his chronicles.

His selected TV works are 'Tiger Crisis, Land of the Tiger, Tigers Fortress, Danger in Tiger Paradise, Search for Tigers, Overpopulation'.
